Scholarships, RYLA, LEAD, Interact and Rotaract, Eagle Scouts, Model UN, Torrey Pines High School Robotics Club- all activities that the Youth Services Committee, chaired by Larry Cook, contributes to each year.  Our club sponsors Interact clubs at three high schools: Cathedral Catholic, Sunset and Torrey Pines High School in addition to the Rotaract Club at University of San Diego.  Klaus Gubernator is chief advisor for our teams participating as delegates to the District 5340 Model United Nations. In Model UN, teams of two students study a resolution, which is debated and amended at the district-wide conference held in early spring.  For RYLA 2019, Don Fipps, Sharon Schendel and Chris Stewart attended as facilitators and we sponsored six high juniors to attend.  Chris Stewart led mindfulness and meditation workshops at the recent Lead conference for eight graders held at Camp Cuyamaca.  We sponsor Eagle Scout projects for Boy Scout Troop 713, which this year added nine female members.  The Youth Committee disbursed around $10,000 in scholarships to students in the area and is looking forward to continuing its sponsorship of young instrumentalists in the District 5340 music competition in February.  Garrie Rhodes leads our contest and asks that we encourage any high school-aged instrumentalists to enter.
