Jim Kohn said he felt like the “Benjamin Button” of Rotary, since during the friendship exchange in India he, rather than his wife Sharon Schendel, was often introduced as the “Past President” of the club.  Jim loves all things that have wings or wheels. He’s a licensed private pilot and certified A&P mechanic. He studied at University of Illinois and Illinois State where he earned a bachelor’s in industrial technology. He has a master’s in management from Redlands and certificate in systems engineering from Caltech.  Jim has worked for Northrop Grumman his entire professional career (an unusual feat in the aerospace industry). The planes he’s worked on are becoming progressively smaller and less expensive. He began with the $2 billion B2 stealth bomber, came to San Diego to work on the GlobalHawk unmanned aerial vehicle, and contributed to the XRQ-73, E-100, and the Firebird.  After retiring in 2019, Jim served as a volunteer medical courier, which he learned about from Rotarian Fary Moini, and in 2024 he un-retired and began consulting for Northrop Grumman. In his spare time, Jim enjoys cycling, traveling with Sharon, having pizza and beer with his daughter Kierstin, spending time with granddaughter Kassidy, who’s the daughter of Kailin, his older daughter, and following Chicago sports teams (Cubs, not Sox).  He’s also a car enthusiast- having owned over 30 cars so far, including a ’66 GTO, an ’86 Buick Regal (which he still owns), and two Nash Metropolitans.
