November 29, 2018 was the day after the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lights were lit. Rotarian of the Day Kathy Reed told about the tree’s evolution from its humble beginnings in 1933 when construction workers building Rockefeller Center decorated a 20 foot tree with tin cans. This year’s 72 foot-tall Norway Spruce was donated by Lissette Gutierrez and Shirley Figueroa. The couple learned not long after they purchased their home that the tree in their front yard they called “Shelby” was a candidate to grace Rockefeller Center.
