Don Fipps and Scholarship Committee members Bill Dougherty and Kathy Reed congratulate scholarship recipient Ella Chambers

We are proud to award one of our annual scholarships to Ella Chambers, a senior at Torrey Pines High School.  Ella maintains a 4.35 GPA and scored 34/36 on the ACT.  After volunteering for two years at the North County Immigration and Citizenship Center in Solana Beach, where she capitalized on her fluency in Spanish, Ella now has a paid position there as coordinator of citizenship tutoring and interpreting.  In the fall, Ella looks forward to attending Miami University in Ohio, where she plans a pre-law curriculum that she hopes will include study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country and internships to gain practical experience.  Our scholarship will provide $4,000 towards her educational expenses.

We thank Bill Dougherty, Kathy Reed, Tom Ryan, Chandra Collure and Chris Stewart for interviewing the 11 finalists from 20 applicants, who were evaluated based financial need, community service, and participation in Interact.
