Bumper Sticker Policy

The Del Mar Rotary Club will give up to 50 Goodbye Polio bumper stickers to a Club or a District for free. The only cost that the club needs to pay is the cost of mailing these bumperstickers to the Club or District.

We ask that each Club or District consider a voluntary donation to our Club to help us defer our costs. Our Costs are around .25 cents apiece or $62.50 for a roll of 250 bumperstickers. This would simply be a voluntary Donation from you Club or District and would be greatly appreciated.

The Bumper Sticker Story: A Message from Past District Governor (1998-99) and Del Mar Rotary Club Past President Marty Peters

We all felt the Rotary International and the Foundation in particular was not getting the positive public relations that is needed to encourage more support by our members and our communities towards this great polio eradication project.

In 1996 I was the governor-nominee and thought that our club could make the bumper stickers and sell them at 25 cents a piece to cover our cost. The buying District or Club could sell them for $20.00 each and donate the funds to Rotary International for polio plus partners.

Little did we know the amount of bumper stickers that would be printed and sold over the past eleven years. So far over 134,000 have been sold. Friends have seen them in Tibet and all over the world. Some Districts and clubs have charged $25.00 to $50.00 for a bumper sticker, and donated the proceeds to the Rotary Foundation specifically for Polio Eradication.

If the average resale of the bumper sticker was $20.00, then over $2,700,000 has been raised in the few years for Polio Plus Partners.

We raised $137,000 in one year in our District, and then were off to Eritrea Africa for our own National Immunization Event in whice over 386,000 children were given the life saving drops. What an privilege to be a part of this global effort! What a fantastic experience for our team. The good news is that we raised so much money, it looks like we will get to go again soon.

I hope that those who take the time to read this will consider taking the time to go and give the drops of life to these children. The beauty is that by our Dollars and Actions we give hope to those in need. Rotary International and our Foundation give us all the opportunity to make the dream of a polio free world a reality. Be part of the effort and take time to make a difference.
